Summertime Sunset

Wiliamsburg is known as one of New York City's most vibrant "hipster" communities. Maybe it's the aura of creativity and freedom that consumes the streets, paved with non-mainstream boutiques, bars and restaurants.

But this unique region of West Brooklyn also contains a great view of the Manhattan skyline. Only a 15-minute walk from the Bedford Station, the East River Park unveils the rich beauty of rising buildings that span across the East River.

As I stood there snapping away, I lifted my gaze skyward and reveled in the colors of the horizon - a dusty pink mixed with with pale shades of blue and orange, and thought about how the sky resembled a large painting that hung over the city. As the sun slowly descended, I watched the colors melt into stronger shades.

God never fails to amaze.

BBQ Block Party

It's almost impossible to get bored in New York City. There's always something exciting going on, like a major BBQ block party, for instance.

Several Saturdays ago, BBQ restaurants from all over the nation flocked to Madison Square Park for one of the biggest BBQ block parties New York had ever seen. The vendors occupied the entire park and spilled onto the surrounding streets. On that sweltering summer afternoon, the area was crowded and infused with the pungent smell of meat and beer.

Melwin & Stephen

When Melwin told me he needed headshots for a new online profile, I was thrilled. YAY, another photoshoot! So on Sunday, we hung around the Lower East Side and took photos with his good buddy and my newfound foodie friend, Stephen. It was a spontaneous, fun-filled photoshoot that even involved a random stranger asking if he could join us. Lol. (I think his name was Robert and I'll publish the shots I took of him in the next post.) 

A couple weeks ago, I blogged about the Upper East Side. While the UES is posh and lined with designer stores and fancy apartments, the is LES the complete opposite. It is often perceived as cruddy and dirty. Although it's not the cleanest or prettiest part of NYC, it's actually a great location for photos. Its urban grunge lends it a personality that boasts mixed cultures and colorful artwork. We were strolling through the back alleys and stumbled upon some interesting graffiti. :)
